We’re a couple passionate about reducing waste individually and society-wide through reducing, refusing, and reusing! We’re Vicky and David, we live in Melbourne, Australia, and we have gone from creating the same amount of waste as most people to hardly ever sending anything to landfill.
Our blog documents how we made this massive lifestyle change and explores ways in which most people can swap to more sustainable products and habits. We hope it will inspire others to make some changes around their homes and in their communities!
We have always been conscious of our impact on the environment and have always done the minimum, turning the tap off while brushing our teeth and soaping ourselves up in the shower, recycling religiously, and switching off lights when leaving a room.
One fateful night we watched the documentary A Plastic Ocean and we realised this wasn’t enough and that we needed to go plastic free. It clicked into place that recycling our waste isn’t enough, we shouldn’t be contributing to the generation of waste in the first place. It is so easy to chuck your garbage into a recycling bin and forget about it, feeling like you have done the right thing.
But, that waste doesn’t disappear, especially plastic.
This began our journey of figuring out how we could live waste free and how we could help others reduce their waste.
We are by no means perfect, but we want to share our wins, no matter how small, and be inspired by new ideas and achievements.
Because, yes, every little bit makes a difference!
Because, together, we can make a big difference.
Because, sometimes, we all need a little encouragement and a big pat on the back for caring among the indifference and trying despite discouragement.
I hope you’ll join us in doing what we can to minimise our waste and our impact on the environment and become part of the reusable nation. We’d love to have you along for the ride to a better world!
