Our Fav Online Eco Stores: Where To Buy Zero Waste Products Worldwide
We get asked where zero waste products can be bought online a lot and with more and more eco-focused online stores selling supposedly sustainable products, it is good to have a trusted retailer you can rely on to only sell truly sustainable products, so we’ve listed our fav eco stores from all around the world.
JUMP TO:
More and more eco-focused online stores are popping up now that being sustainable is trendy and is seen as a way to sell products and some of these stores don’t consider the entire supply chain or all the ingredients used in the products they sell and don’t sell ethically produced or good quality products.
So, we thought we would share the stores we trust to sell quality and truly sustainable products.
If you are interested in the products we personally use check them out here.
Remember, buying new shiny products is not what being zero waste is about. Use what you have first and only buy something if you really need it and look for a second-hand version instead. We mostly use these stores to buy products that need to be replenished like dish soap, shampoo bars, bamboo fibre scrubbers when they’re no longer usable and have been composted etc.
And, if you were wondering, it is actually more eco-friendly to buy online than in store. You can read more about this here.
It is better to buy from a store that is local to you and that sells local products from small businesses so we’ve divided the stores into counties. The ones outside Australia are used by or have been recommended by friends or other zero wasters in those countries.
If you are looking for an actual store you can visit, you can find stores that sell zero waste products, beauty products and cleaning products on our map of Where To Shop Zero Waste in Australia.

Although we live in Melbourne, Australia, we’re from South Africa and our family still lives over there and we still have heaps of friends in South Africa and this is the store we point them to. Etsy
Etsy has endless options of homemade eco-friendly products to help you on your zero waste journey! For when you can’t home-make something yourself! We love that Etsy focuses on handcrafted, vintage, custom and unique items. They’re not all sustainable, but it is our top recommended site for things like crocheted dish cloths, homemade soap, knitted cup cozys, ceramic reusable coffee cups, home-sewn reusable cotton pads or sanitary pads and plastic-free party decor, as well as beauty products you want someone else to DIY for you like homemade deodorant, lip balm, and scrubs. And you can set the shop location to make sure it is made locally.

Amazon
Not an eco store at all, but Amazon is a popular choice for online deliveries in general and you can usually get your items plastic free by asking but you’ll have to do your own research to ensure what you are buying is actually an eco-friendly choice. It is a good choice for accidentally eco products that aren’t sold by websites only focusing on sustainable products, for example things like a SteriPen water purifier, which can save you from having to buy water in plastic bottles when visiting places where the water is not safe to drink, and a SodaStream, as well as books on zero waste living. The site can also enable you to do one big order, which reduces packaging overall, as it can have everything you are looking for when smaller sites might only have some of the things you are looking for.
www.amazon.com
To ensure your delivery is posted as plastic free as possible, when buying from non-eco stores like Etsy or Amazon, at checkout, make sure you comment in the comments box that you would like your package to be plastic free and as low waste as possible and let them know that you don’t mind if the box used for your delivery is one that is being reused.
Write something like:
“Please don’t use any plastic when packaging my delivery and please use as few packaging materials as possible. I am happy for you to reuse an old box for my delivery if you have one. I am trying to make my purchase as low waste and eco-friendly as possible. Thank you!”
You’ll probably notice that we don’t have any trusted Asia-based eco stores in our list yet. We’ll add them when we do! Do you have a fav online store you love to support? Let us know in the comments.
